Valentines Sharpies

The first grew out of playing with lines and dots around the traditional shape of valentines day… Taking up my brand new mini sharpies of many colours I began with pink and swiftly drew a heart in the middle. Confronted now with a page that was no longer blank I could begin to play.

The pink lines of love flowed naturally round, followed by the clear blue. But something was missing. My hand hovered over the pens, trying to decide which colour would best complement the pink and blue. Finally it settled on the colour of joy, orange. Dots and triangles balanced the solid lines and I found myself filling the empty heart with spirals of colour formed of dots, reminding me that the edges of things are mutable and that love and joy and clarity can all flow within each other.

Finished with dots and lines I pulled a clean postcard and contemplated those things which I love as I, again, placed a heart on the centre of the page. This time it was red. Red like the setting sun… I smiled as I recalled the sun setting over the sea nearby and filled the white with the glow at the end of a beautiful day.

And so I created my first Sharpie artworks.

Happy Love-Days to you all

Ruby the Woolly Dotee

Ruby now lives in America. She was the first Dotee I made successfully. The previous two may make an appearance later, but they’re still shy. Ruby came into being for a red-themed Dotee swap on swap-bot, and as the weather was getting all shivery, I thought perhaps she’d have a nice warm cuddly coat…

And a hat and scarf in a lovely fluffy green to remind her of home. I actually crocheted the hat freehand! Its made of the softest yarn I’ve ever found, and Ruby herself is made from a red flannel (which I bought especially once I realised what her story was, and that she should really have a nice wooly coat of her own).

Here she is all snuggled up cutely to her hat. She does love it so!

I took a picture as I waved her goodbye. She was off to find a nice warm bubble envelope to curl up in while she travelled to her new home! I was sad to see her go, but pleased she would be meeting lovely new people and bringing smiles around the world. I still smile when I think of her.

Here is the portrait I sent with her:

Sadly, I’m having trouble finding her story… I’ll add that when I discover where it got scanned to! Suffice to say, Ruby wasn’t always woolly… but she did get cold, and she was bright enough to realise that sheep had woolly coats that kept them warm…

Welcome to my blog!

I hope you find something to inspire or enjoy. 🙂

This will be growing, and over the next few days I intend to post about One World, One Heart, and include my giveaway, so please check back if you’d like to join in with a chance to win something (I haven’t decided what I’m making yet! Really must get to it…)

I have a couple of other blogs if you’re interested (see the box to the right of this post that says ‘My Other Places’.)

Enjoy!

Today we have snow!!! This is a rare and precious thing for Britain. Unfortunately we’re not quite able to cope with it! Ah well, I’m enjoying it muchly and have some pictures which I’ll be uploading shortly for your delectation.

I also took the plunge and, after 7 years of insisting I can’t keep pot plants alive, I bought some potted flowers, a red rose bush, and a yellow rose bush (both less than a foot tall) so now I really feel like the dreams I’ve had the past couple of nights (where I’ve insisted to other dream characters that I have a rose garden) are coming true! And this makes me very happy.

ROSES! And SNOW! Yay!

*is easily amused* 🙂
